The MouseHub take

Bruce's Shark World is a small interactive exhibit on Level 1 of SeaBase Aquarium, inside The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion in EPCOT's World Nature. It takes its cue from Finding Nemo: self-guided displays, quiz stations hosted by Nemo's schoolteacher Mr. Ray, and a set of walk-in shark jaws you pose inside. Nothing here has a line, a height rule, or a showtime, so you decide how long it gets. Most families give it a few minutes on the way past, and benches nearby give the adults somewhere to sit while the kids work the buttons.

It slots into a World Nature morning right after the clamobile ride, which ends at SeaBase. Parents of elementary-age kids get the most out of it, since the trivia is pitched at that age and the photo costs nothing. Adults touring without children take one picture and move on to the 5.7-million-gallon tank and the window-lined viewing room on Level 2. Two things wear on it: rain drives the whole pavilion indoors and turns the exhibit loud and congested, and several buttons have taken enough daily use that they no longer respond.

The good

  • You get to stand inside a shark's mouth
    Bruce's jaws open wide enough to step into for a picture, and that is the thing people come away with. It costs nothing and takes a minute.
  • Mr. Ray quizzes the kids on ocean trivia
    The stations run undersea questions from Nemo's schoolteacher, voiced in the films by Bob Peterson. Elementary-age kids work through the buttons without much prompting.
  • The air conditioning does most of the work
    It is indoors and cool, which matters more than the exhibit does on a Florida afternoon. Parents sit while the kids move between stations.
  • Walk in whenever you want
    This is a self-guided exhibit on Level 1 of SeaBase Aquarium with nothing to queue for. Give it two minutes or twenty and leave when you are done.
  • No height rule, so nobody sits out
    Disney lists it as any height, and there is no vehicle to board. Toddlers, older siblings, and grandparents all go through together.

  • Rain fills the pavilion fast
    An afternoon downpour sends the surrounding crowd into SeaBase for shelter. The exhibit turns loud and congested until it passes.
  • Some of the buttons have stopped responding
    Visitors keep running into quiz stations that do not register a press. Daily use by children has left parts of the exhibit worn.
  • Adults run out of things to do quickly
    The trivia is written for elementary-age kids. A party without them is done after the photo.
  • The light is too low for easy photos
    Inside the shark jaws you are shooting in shadow, and phone cameras struggle with it. Expect a few blurry attempts before you get a keeper.
  • The shark photo backs up when it is busy
    Bruce is the one thing everybody stops for, so families cluster around the statue rather than forming a line. Getting a clear frame takes patience.

Veteran tips

  • Come in the morning if you want quiet
    Crowds build through the afternoon as people come in for the cool air and to wait out rain. Early in the day the quiz stations are usually free.
  • Ride Nemo first, then walk in
    The Seas with Nemo & Friends clamobile ride ends at SeaBase, and Bruce's Shark World is on Level 1 of the same aquarium. Doing it in that order saves a second trip into the pavilion.
  • Do not spend a Lightning Lane pick here
    The exhibit takes no Lightning Lane reservation of any kind, and there is no line to skip. Your one first-group Multi Pass pick at EPCOT belongs on Test Track or Frozen Ever After.
  • Switch your camera to night mode
    Low-light mode handles the shadows inside the jaws better than a flash, which blows out the highlights. Hold steady and take two.
  • Skip it if your party has no kids
    The quizzes are pitched at elementary-age children and will not hold an adult group. Spend the time on the 5.7-million-gallon tank instead.
  • Ask about the Level 2 fish feedings
    Animal care experts feed and train the rays, sea turtles, and fish in the window-lined room on Level 2. Times vary day to day, so ask a cast member at The Seas on your way through.

    Bruce's Shark World is on Level 1, and the viewing room and the feedings are upstairs. Escalators carry most of the crowd up, and the elevator handles a wheelchair or ECV so the party stays together.
