Main Street Vehicles is a one-way ride down Main Street, U.S.A., and which vehicle you get depends on what Disney has running that morning. The fleet covers a horse-drawn trolley, an omnibus, a jitney, and a fire engine, and they board at Town Square or at the central plaza in front of Cinderella Castle. The trip runs the length of the street at walking pace while foot traffic parts around it. You sit down, you look up at the storefronts and the castle, and you step off at the other end.

This is a first-hour attraction. Visitors who go looking for it in the afternoon report finding both stops empty, so take it if a vehicle happens to be sitting there when you walk in. Families with small children and anyone who likes Disney history come off happy, particularly on the trolley, where the horses do the work. Guests running a headliner-first plan find the wait hard to justify for a ride that ends about where a short walk would have put them anyway.

The good

  • The trolley horses are the real draw
    Percherons, Clydesdales, and Belgians pull the trolleys down Main Street, and they live at Tri-Circle-D Ranch over at Fort Wilderness. Riders who catch the trolley rather than the bus are the ones still talking about it afterward.
  • Four vehicles run the same short route
    Disney's fleet covers a horse-drawn trolley, an omnibus, a jitney, and a fire engine. Two trips down the same street are not the same ride, and which one is out comes down to the day.
  • Everyone in the party can board
    There's no height requirement and no age minimum, so a toddler and a grandparent ride the same vehicle. Nobody stands on the sidewalk holding the stroller while the rest of you go.
  • The drivers are worth talking to
    Cast members working these vehicles have time on a route this short, and riders come away with details about the vehicle and the street that no sign explains.

    Main Street is short and the vehicle moves at walking pace. Riders expecting a tour are surprised how quickly they're stepping down.
  • The line outlasts the ride
    Each vehicle carries a small group and loading takes a while, so a few families ahead of you can mean a longer wait at the stop than the trip itself.

Veteran tips

  • Ride it in the first hour
    Head for the Town Square stop on your way in, not on your way back. Circling around to Main Street later in the day usually finds the street empty.
  • Board at Town Square and ride toward the castle
    Both stops work. Going that direction keeps Cinderella Castle in front of you for the whole trip instead of behind you.
  • Look for a parked vehicle before you wait
    One sitting at either stop is the reliable sign the attraction is running. If both ends are empty, spend the time elsewhere and check the My Disney Experience app later.
  • Take the trolley if you get the choice
    It's the calmest of the four, with open bench seating and the horses setting the pace. That's the one for a tired grandparent or a wound-up toddler.
  • Ask for the photo while it's parked
    Between trips the drivers are stationary and will wait while somebody frames a shot. Easier than trying to shoot from a moving bench.
  • Don't plan it as transportation
    Walking the length of Main Street takes less time than boarding and riding it. Count this as an attraction you chose to do, not a way to save steps.
