Tortuga Tavern is a pirate-themed counter-service window in Adventureland, and Disney runs it seasonally: the official page says as much and tells you to check back before you go. When it is open, the board is five entrees. A Barbecued Pork Sandwich is $12.49, a Barbecued Slaw Dog with barbecued pork and slaw on an all-beef hot dog is $12.99, Orange Chicken Strips in a sweet orange-soy glaze are $11.29, and a Peanut Butter, Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, and Banana Sandwich is $10.99. A plain All-Beef Hot Dog is $10.99 too. House-made chips come with the sandwiches and the hot dogs.

Most of the seating is outdoors under a covered pavilion, which handles the sun but not the heat, and a smaller enclosed room with pirate decor and ceiling fans sits off to one side. Visitors come here for the shade and the short line rather than the food, which they describe as ordinary theme park fare. Disney sells it as the stop after riding Pirates of the Caribbean, and that is about the right size for it: a fast, cheap break in the middle of an Adventureland morning rather than a meal you plan around.

The good

  • The pavilion keeps the sun off
    Most of the tables sit under a covered roof, and visitors name the shade as the main reason they stop here at all.
  • The sweet sandwich wins over picky kids
    The Peanut Butter, Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, and Banana Sandwich is $10.99 and comes with house-made chips. Parents report it is the one thing on the board their kids eat without an argument.
  • A back room gets you out of the crowd
