TRON Lightcycle / Run at Disney World's Magic Kingdom

Curated Review

Based on reviews and rider feedback, here is a curated review of the TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction at Magic Kingdom Park.

Overall Verdict

TRON Lightcycle / Run is a breathtaking, high-speed, and incredibly smooth launch coaster that delivers a spectacular visual experience—especially after dark. It is a stunning piece of architecture and kinetic energy that perfectly anchors Tomorrowland. However, the experience is almost universally criticized for being too short, and its unique Lightcycle seating is highly restrictive for many guests. It is an amazing ride, but riders should manage their expectations regarding the brief duration and be prepared for potential sizing issues.

The Experience

TRON Lightcycle / Run simulates the experience of being digitized and racing on the digital game grid. Guests board a Lightcycle, which is a unique motorbike-style coaster vehicle that requires a forward-leaning, prone position. Riders are secured with restraints that lock down on the back and the calves.

The ride’s signature moment is the near-silent, lightning-fast launch from the internal loading dock, rocketing riders under the massive, illuminated outdoor canopy (known as the “Pringle”). The Lightcycles achieve a top speed of nearly 60 mph, making it one of the fastest coasters at Walt Disney World. After the outdoor sprint, the Lightcycles re-enter the main show building for a series of tight turns and dips through the dark, stylized digital world, complete with stunning lighting effects before a quick finale.

Summary

TRON Lightcycle / Run is a visually groundbreaking and exhilarating addition to Tomorrowland, successfully bringing the vibrant world of The Grid to life with a sensational launch and stunning nighttime glow. It’s a must-do for any thrill seeker who loves a fast, smooth coaster. However, its brevity and the restrictive nature of its unique Lightcycle seats are the biggest drawbacks. If you can secure a late-evening ride and have no issues with the test vehicle, you will leave feeling that you have experienced a high-energy, world-class attraction. If you are concerned about fit, use the test seat or opt for the modified seating to ensure your experience on the Grid is a successful one.
